An MDF base plate is a stable and flat medium density fibreboard base that is used as a support for presentations, displays and structures. The material combines dimensional stability with a neat finish.
An MDF base plate is a sheet material based on compressed wood fibers with a uniform structure and high flatness.
MDF (medium density fibreboard) is a composite wood product that is created by pressing fine wood fibers with resins under high pressure and temperature. This results in a homogeneous material with no grain direction, which ensures consistent strength and workability in all directions.
As a base plate, MDF is often used as a stable base for objects such as displays, models, plexiglass cloches and signage. The material is easy to mill, saw and finish, making customized solutions possible. In addition, MDF can be lacquered, veneered or coated with other materials for an aesthetic finish.
Due to its high density and flatness, MDF offers reliable support, both in functional and visual applications.
print settings
material properties
High flatness and dimensional stability
Homogeneous structure without grain direction
Good machinability (milling, sawing, drilling)
Suitable for various finishes (paint, veneer, coating)
Relatively high density and stability
Cost-efficient sheet material
drawbacks
Sensitive to moisture and swelling when in contact with water
Lower load-bearing capacity than solid wood under heavy loads
Can generate dust during processing (requires extraction)
Not suitable for outdoor applications without treatment
Less aesthetic without finishing
Other Materials
Raw materials for Additive manufacturing
